I'm pretty sure I’ve said it before , but the Web Cuff was the first piece of casted jewelry I ever made for the MFF Collections. The school I attended in NYC was a very much work-at-your-own-pace style of learning. We had designated projects we had to finish by the time our hours were complete, but once we did those projects, we had the freedom to "play" with the materials in front of us. Since my friend, Nina (check out her jewelry here), had finished our projects with time to spare, we both started to experimenting with wax carving. I had no idea what I wanted to create that day so I started playing connect the dots with wax on the mandrel. Next thing I knew, a full cuff had come into formation, and I was hooked on the build up wax process. (Almost all of my pieces are still made using this process).
Well, I took that cuff home for Thanksgiving, and though my mom loved it, she requested a "skinny" version. Thus, the Web Skinny Cuff came about. What’s that saying - mom always knows best? Yeah, well, the Web Skinny Cuff is, to this day, one of my absolutely best sellers - so thanks for that, Mom.
After school was finished and I was working out of my little NYC apartment, I had the idea to make a bib necklace version of the web motif. I had first made the Honeycomb Bib Necklace, and had gotten such a great feedback on that as well as the web cuffs, that a Web Bib Necklace was the natural next step.
The last piece in the series - the Web Ring - has a fun story behind it. This was a piece that I didn’t make until more recently. At one of Hobbs’ events, a coworker of his approached me about doing a custom ring for her. She noticed me wearing the Web Cuffs often and told me that when she was young, her mother had given her a ring that had a very similar design. Sadly, she lost the ring a few years after she lost her mother and regrets it everyday. So, in honor of the original ring, I made the Web Ring as a tribute, and I’m so glad all of you love it as much as she did!
Which piece in the Web Series is your favorite? Are you daring enough to #stackemup?
Update: We've since added a Web Pendant Necklace as of Summer 2017! Any other web-inspired pieces you've like to see added to the Series? Drop us a line in the comments!
