Custom Stories: Richardson Family Birthstone Necklace

We're starting a new series on the blog - Custom Stories! Since y'all are loving custom so much lately, I thought I'd share a few of the amazing stories I have the honor of playing a small part in.

Back in December, Hayley approached me about creating a special necklace for her mom, the matriarch of their growing family. She had seen where I'd made a necklace for another family with six children, and she wanted something similar but asked if we could include her mom's grandchildren as well. I said, absolutely!

Four of the people represented in the necklace have October birthdays, 1 in April, 1 in February, and 1 in June. The most common birthstones for those months are opal, diamond, amethyst, and pearl, respectively. Now, both Hayley and I were unsure how 4 opals would look mixed in with the other stones - we feared the necklace would be too monochromatic for her mother's color-loving heart. So, we went to the drawing board! To add some color and stay within budget, we chose Pink Tourmalines (another birthstone option for October is tourmaline) in place of the opals and set them in an alternating design. The result? Stunning, if I do say so myself.

What a special representation of such a special family. Thank you for letting me play a small role in creating this new family heirloom. I can't wait to hear the stories of how you add to it in the future!
